Availabilty and SuitabilitY
Your venue needs to meet your needs, so availability and suitability is a great place to start. Ask if they have your preferred dates available, whether that be one day, or you’re planning a whole weekend of festivities. How many guests can the venue accommodate? If you’re having a small wedding this shouldn’t be an issue but for larger weddings you need to make sure that they can accommodate all your guests. Check they are within your budget and if you are wanting to get married at the venue too, you need to check that they are licensed for legal ceremonies. Knowing all this information first off can dramatically cut down your places of choice, which is not always a bad thing!
Does the venue have enough accommodation to house all your guests? If they don’t, do they have recommended places close by that they can book out for you, or they can check are also available on the day or days you are getting married. It’s always good to give your guests an option of accommodation, especially if they are coming from far and wide and don’t know the location or surrounding areas.
Does the venue have exclusive use? Will there be anymore events or weddings happening on the same day? If having a private wedding and exclusive use is important to you, then this is definitely something to be sure on before you go any further with a venue. Some venues may be exclusive use and some may offer exclusive use for a higher price so make sure you have all the right information when it comes to each destination wedding venue in The Côte d’Azur.
Event Planning and Coordination
As most of your planning will be done over the phone/email, it is much easier for you, and less stressful, if the venue have an in-house wedding planner or team to take care of things on your behalf. Do they have lots of experience in planning destination weddings? Make sure you have a specific point of contact that you can fire questions and queries at as you think of them. If they don’t have an in-house team then do they have someone they use that knows the venue and the area?
Food and drink is important in any wedding celebration so this is definitely something you need to ask lots of questions about. If the venue has packages, what do these include? Can you taste the menu (if possible) before your wedding day? Can they cater for specific food and drink dietry requirements? You need to make sure that all your guest’s needs are catered for. If their catering is in-house will crockery and linen be provided? These might seem obvious but it’s always better to be safe than sorry. Finally if they don’t offer in-house catering then do they have recommended suppliers and can they organise this for you?
At most venues there will be some restrictions. Will all areas be available to use? Can you decorate the venue and move things around? Can you use confetti and candles? All these things are the finer details but you will need to know so you can plan around any restrictions the venue may have. If you’re planning on having a band/live music then are there any time restrctions on when this has to finish by?
You want your day to run as smoothly as possible, so making sure you have all the logistics covered is paramount. Ask questions around accessibility and parking, sound systems, microphones, lighting and power supply for speeches and entertainment and do they have a back up plan if the wedding is planned for outdoors but the weather isn’t as expected?
